Rochdale, Heywood & Middleton Christmas Light Switch-Ons, Gaia Exhibition, a variety of Christmas Food Fairs and Craft Markets, Live Music and Performances, Rochdale Sleep Out in aid of charity, Fireground Museum Open Day and an Illustrated Talk - lots to do in and around the borough this weekend.

Gaia Exhibition – Number One Riverside from Saturday 20 Nov until Christmas Eve (24 Dec)

Measuring seven metres in diameter and created from detailed NASA imagery, the internationally renowned 'Gaia' installation will see a huge work of art depicting planet Earth on display in Rochdale town centre.


Christmas Craft & Food Fayre – Gordon Rigg Garden Centre Rochdale, Saturday 20 Nov 10am – 4pm & Sunday 21 Nov 11am – 4pm

Support local businesses whilst purchasing those perfect Christmas gifts or just a treat for yourself.


Fireground Museum Open Day – Maclure Road, Fri 19 & Sat 20 November, open 10am – 4pm

Discover Greater Manchester’s firefighting story in Rochdale town centre.



  • Friday 19 November

Rochdale Sleep Out – Crown Oil Arena, 7pm – 7am

Volunteers are being asked to sleep rough for one night at Rochdale AFC’s home ground for charity.


My Old Man – Touchstones Rochdale, doors open 7pm for 7.30pm start

A funny and heartfelt production following the trials and tribulations of Michał - an old, blind, Polish soldier.


Live Music: Born of Frustration - James Tribute Band - Empire Rochdale, open 6pm - 4am, live music from 10pm

A tribute to the iconic Manchester band James.

  • Saturday 20 November

Christmas Fair – Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre, 9am – 5pm

Support local business offering original gift ideas for Christmas.


Christmas Craft Market – Littleborough Coach House, 10am – 3pm

All local crafts with a Christmas theme.


Celebrity Lunchtime Concert - St Chad's Church, refreshments from 11.20am, concert starts 12noon

Violin concert with Savva Zverev and Sid Ramchander (Royal Northern College of Music).


'China' - Illustrated talk by Rev. Andy Halstead – Moorhouse Methodist Church, 12noon

Proceeds will go to "All We Can" the Methodist Relief & Development Fund.


Heywood Christmas Lights Switch On – Heywood town centre (outside St Luke’s Church)

Entertainment will begin outside St Luke's Church from 3pm, with the official lights switch on at 5pm plus fireworks.


Rochdale Christmas Lights Switch On – Rochdale Riverside (Rochdale town centre)

Fun family events and entertainment will be hosted from 3.30pm and continue to 5.30pm, with the official lights switch on by Father Christmas, the deputy mayor of Rochdale and special guests at 4pm.


Showaddywaddy – Middleton Arena, 7.30pm

Formed in the 1970s, the band have been performing Rock n Roll hits for the last four decades.


Live Music: ABBA Tribute – Empire Rochdale, open 6pm – 4am, live music from 10pm

Revival takes their audience on a musical journey back to those disco days when ABBA ruled the dance floor!

  • Sunday 21 November

Christmas Fair at The Willows – The Woodlands Café at The Willows Dementia Hub, 11am – 4pm

Craft stalls, tombolas, entertainment, festive food, mulled wine and more.


Middleton Christmas Lights Switch On – Middleton town centre (Middleton Gardens)

Entertainment begins in Middleton Gardens from 1pm before the lights are officially switched on by the mayor and Father Christmas at 5pm.
