Rotary Middleton took Santa around the town
Rotary Middleton has been working hard since November to get the local community into the festive spirit, and its efforts have paid off as the humanitarian group has raised over £7,000 for local causes.
The festivities began by helping the Middleton Shopping Centre, which saw Santa Claus set up a grotto to meet the town’s boys and girls. Even his reindeer flew into Middleton Gardens for a quick visit before a busy Christmas, sponsored by S Wellens and Sons.
Rotary Middleton also accompanied Santa on a tour of Middleton with a Christmas float in early December, meeting more local children and bring some cheer to everyone. They were joined by Hopwood DePree, who is restoring the Grade-II* listed Hopwood Hall Estate in Middleton, and some of the hall’s Friends group.
In total, an impressive £7,764.86 was raised before gift aid. Funds have already begun to be distributed as the Rotary group supported the Lighthouse Project's Christmas toy appeal. Most funds will be given out in early 2022.
President Lee Wolf said: “It has been great to be back in Middleton with Santa.
“The first week was brilliant in raising a record amount, so we had a lot to live up to in our second week – and you didn’t disappoint!
“Once again the community response was fantastic with so many smiles on the faces of people and so much joy brought to Middleton.”
Mr Wolf added: “We were overwhelmed by how many people came out to see the reindeer, it was wonderful.
“Of course, we wouldn’t be able to achieve this without our wonderful volunteers, so on behalf of Rotary Middleton a very big thank you to them for giving up their time to help.
“We also thank the wonderful generous people of Middleton. All in all it has been our best Christmas ever, we saw so many of you and with your generous donations we had a record year. Well done to you all.
“This money will be of great benefit to our local community groups & charities when we start distributing to them.
“Rotary Middleton wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful and safe New Year.”
