Fundraiser for funeral of man killed in Milnrow Road hit and run

Date published: 20 January 2022

A community fundraiser has been launched to help with the funeral costs of a man killed in a hit and run.

The 50-year-old-man – named locally as Jason Goostrey – was struck by a brown Skoda Octavia when he was crossing Milnrow Road earlier this month.

Unfortunately, Jason later died as a result of his injuries, despite the best efforts of medical staff.

The fundraiser hopes to raise £1,000 towards Jason’s funeral costs 'to help ease the pressure on his mum'.

The Skoda involved in the hit and run had been travelling along Chichester Street in the direction of Milnrow Road at around 4.40pm on Thursday 6 January.

When the car reached the junction with Milnrow Road, it overtook a vehicle waiting to turn left, and then turned left onto Milnrow Road where it collided with Jason.

The Skoda failed to remain at the scene and the car was later found abandoned on Percy Street, Rochdale.

Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information about the collision should contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident 1770 of 06/01/22.

Alternatively, details can be passed via the LiveChat function at www.gmp.police.uk or via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Donations towards Jason’s funeral costs can be made via GoFundMe.
