Ukraine crisis: Local drop-off points for donations

Following the crisis in Ukraine, a number of drop-off points for donations have been co-ordinated across the Rochdale borough.

Here’s where you can donate and what items are required (please do not donate any items not listed).

* This article will continue to be updated as we learn of more drop-off points (latest update 11am (Thursday 10 March)


Heywood

Holy Family RC & CE College and St Joseph's Church

Holy Family RC & CE College has agreed to be a local collection point for donations for Ukraine. The Polish Centre in Bury will be transporting items collected over to Ukraine with the first drop going on Friday. If you have any items on the list below, they would be greatly appreciated. Holy Family will be collecting for the foreseeable future.

If you have any items below please send them in with your child if they attend the school, or feel free to drop them at reception between 8am-4.15pm Monday to Friday. You can also drop things off at St Joseph's Church any time there is a mass on, in food bank baskets or leave at the priest's house Monday-Thursday 10am-2pm.

Lily May Boutique, Manchester Street

Lily May is acting as a local drop-off for Singleton’s Dance Academy in Rochdale; please ring the shop if required between 10am and 5pm on 01706 366 195.

Items urgently needed are:

  • Children’s clothing
  • New socks and underwear
  • Travel-sized toiletries
  • Baby milk
  • Light packet food and water
  • Sleeping bags
  • Coats

The first lot of donations will be collected from Singleton’s next Monday or Tuesday (7 or 8 March) before being transported to the Polish-Ukrainian border.


Rochdale

Singleton’s Dance Academy/Rochdale Ukrainian Donations Hub

**NO LONGER ACCEPTING DONATIONS AS FULL TO CAPACITY AS OF 9 MARCH**

Singleton’s Dance Academy, on Mellor Street, has become a registered drop-off point for donations to Ukraine with Yorkshire-based charity, Focus4Hope.

Open Tuesday-Saturday 10am - 5pm. Please use the Ron Chalkers entrance and ring the bell.
 


Gemma Finbarr-Smith, who last year co-ordinated donations for Afghan refugees, has opened the doors to her dance studio again to anyone wishing to donate goods to help the Ukrainians and any refugees fleeing the country.

She said: “I live opposite my dance studio so if anyone wants to donate, please ring or text me on 07983 578638 so one of us can pop over and unlock the door for you at pretty much any time.”

  • Sleeping bags
  • Coats

Norden Old Library, Edenfield Road

Councillor Peter Winkler is co-ordinating with a convoy leaving for Poland on Friday to take essential items to help with the evacuation and the humanitarian crisis.

The following items have been requested:

  • Toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • Basic toiletries, soap etc.
  • Basic medical/first aid supplies
  • Nappies and sanitary products
  • Warm socks and gloves

If anyone would like to drop off donations, the Norden Old Library will be open from 6pm - 8pm on Wednesday evening (2 March) to receive items. All donations received will be taken to the main depot on Thursday (3 March) and begin the journey to the Polish borders on Friday (4 March).

 

A Little Day Spa, Edenfield Road

You can drop off at the salon during opening hours. These items will be collected regularly and taken ready to be shipped over to the refugees of Ukraine.

  • Adult clothes, toys.

We are looking for:

  • babies clothes up to three-years-old.

It has been confirmed that they are simply overwhelmed in the amount of clothes they have received. We want to avoid taking things that will simply not be used. However, any clothes already donated will be taken (thank you).

Thermal blankets,

  • sleeping bags,
  • good quality bedding,
  • sleeping mats,
  • military mattresses,
  • good quality blankets
  • good quality raincoats (only clothing please)
  • personal hygiene products
  • toothpaste,
  • toothbrush
  • wet wipes
  • nappies
  • sanitary items
  • paper towels
  • antibacterial fluids,
  • medical spirit
  • disposable and reusable face masks
  • dressings, liquid for disinfecting and disinfecting wounds
  • bandages or dressings, Celox (i.e. granules for quick staunching blood and gauze) or tourniquets to stop blood
  • field tents
  • camp beds
  • coal furnaces
  • cooking cauldrons
  • microfiber towels
  • reusable tableware sets, i.e. plates and cutlery
  • batteries of various sizes,
  • candles,
  • flashlights.
  • rucksacks or big bags to carry items

    FOOD
  • all kinds of instant food (i.e. instant soups to be poured with boiling water, etc.)
  • breakfast cereals
  • energy bars
  • dried fruits
  • pasta

This appeal will run until 20 March 2022.

Littleborough

Reuse Littleborough's Hub Church Street and Better Together, Yorkshire Street, Rochdale

  • Unopened tins of all formula milk,
  • Toddler food ( jars , tins )
  • Underwear for everyone,
  • Sanitary items for women,
  • Vitamin drinks,

These will be loaded into containers for delivery to the refugee camps being set up on the Polish border.


Middleton

All Saints and Martyrs Church, Wood Street

Please donate items (see the list below), and bring it to the local collection point at All Saints and Martyrs Church, Langley (open from about 5pm - 8pm this Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 March).

It will be taken to the Polish Integration Support Centre collection point in Manchester, and from there to the refugees arriving at the border without anything.
