Bank holiday family weekend of fun raises thousands for Ukraine

Date published: 24 May 2022

A bank holiday family weekend fundraiser for Ukraine in Queen's Park, Heywood, organised by Billy Hills fairground and helped by Heywood Rotary has raised an amazing £4,150.

Held on Friday 13 until Sunday 15 May with free entry, the event was very well attended.

The fundraiser was the idea of Billy Hill who provides weekend rides around the park on his ground train. He pledged a large percentage of the fairground takings over the three-day extravaganza. There were lots of fairground rides, face painting, Punch & Judy, birds of prey and magic tricks and more.

Phil Corns, the president of Heywood Rotary, said “It was lovely to see so many families enjoying the attractions and donating to such a deserving cause; we all feel for the suffering being caused in Ukraine.”

A generous donation was also made by Alison Schofield who runs the park café and Jane Eyre Holland from Heywood PossAbilities has added £1,200 to the total.
