Deeplish Community Centre open day

Date published: 01 June 2022

An open day focusing on partnerships and community engagement was well attended at Deeplish Community Centre on Wednesday 25 May.

This was an open day where services, community projects and newly arrived families, community members come together to explore local services and provisions for children, families and parents.

This was organised in partnership with early help and school’s Equalities team, Touchstone Museum and art gallery, council’s talk English team, Rochdale Youth Service, Cartwheel Arts, Sunshine Preschool, health and NHS services.

Teaching and learning advisors Erica Field and Emily Humphrey were key players in bringing services together, whilst Dani Gaines, community inclusion manager at Touchstones, organised a mobile museum and art gallery presentation.

This was the first time many members had seen artefacts from the museum, and were keen to visit in the future.

Cartwheel engaged with many parents, teaching arts for families, whilst the youth service distributed free books to families and children to read together.

Talk English provided many families the opportunity to enrol on English and digital inclusion courses and classes.

Sohail Ahmad JP said: “Everyone enjoyed the displays, workshops and information stalls.

“It was an informative, interesting and well-attended event which connected community members with services.

“We look forward in holding many events and open days in future.”
