Platinum Jubilee celebrations at Brownhill Learning Community

Date published: 10 June 2022

Brownhill Learning Community celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Thursday 26 May, inviting parent volunteers, staff and pupils to their premises on Heights Lane, Rochdale.

The day consisted of fun and games events and activities such as penalty shoot-outs, archery, balloon game and designing and decorating jubilee themed t-shirts.

All the pupils who made t-shirts modelled them and three very lucky winners received a prize for the best one.

Volunteers, staff and pupils also decorated the atrium with banners and balloons. Long tables were set up for an afternoon tea which consisted of sandwiches, confectionery, scones, strawberries and clotted cream.

As a community, parent volunteers, staff and pupils came together to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. Over the last few weeks pupils have been learning all about the monarchy and the royal family.  Some classes made displays of the Queen’s life and her 70-year reign on the throne.

The school even made a coronation of their very own - the Queen of Brownhill Learning Community, headteacher Kate Connolly who has ‘reigned’ since 2001.

Pupils – with help from parent volunteers and staff – made a throne and crown for the coronation ceremony. One staff member dressed as Elvis ‘the king of rock and roll’ making this a Queen and ‘King’ celebration.

Jackie Robinson, Community Development Officer, said: “The day was a huge success, and lots of very happy memories were made.”
