Nature themed musical concert

Date published: 06 August 2022

Classically-trained pianist Margarita Capas and her WonderPiano students performed a musical concert at St Chad’s Parish Church on 18 July.

Thirty-five students of various ages and levels, performed pieces all inspired by the theme of nature.

The concert started with Margarita's children, Marijus and Salomeja performing a very famous song "Imagine" by J. Lennon arranged for four hands. This helped to set a serene mood for everyone in the audience.

After the first performance which ended with big applause to the pair of performers, young pianists performed calm and lilting solo pieces like "Misty night garden", "House of the Rising Sun", "Starry Dome", "Dragonfly", "Arctic  night" and "Sunlight through the trees".

Some performed duets with their tutor including "The forgotten forest", "Still waters" and "Over the Rainbow".

Even though the general atmosphere and mood vas very relaxing (with the sound effect of birds chirping in the background, flowers and bent grass around the piano made us all feel like we all are sitting in the meadow) some pieces had a more energetic and uplifting mood, like "The Great Sea", "Down by the Riverside", "Wild windy day" and "Spring" - another well known theme by Vivaldi, arranged for four hands.

Margarita said: “We ended the concert in the traditional way with a fiery, quick tempo piece performed with my son Marijus which required brilliant technique and concentration. The best choice for that was A. Piazzolla's "Primavera Porteña" - jazzy, sensual, at the same time full of various syncopated rhythms and temperament.

"Me and my students work hard to make all the concerts special.

"The list of pieces, themes and other details are starting to build up months before the event, even though between the concerts many of students are having their graded piano or music theory exams and performing in music festivals.

"Our next piano concert should take place in December and everyone is invited to come!"
