Horse-rider airlifted to hospital after fall

Date published: 09 August 2022

A rider who fell from a horse near Wardle was airlifted to hospital on Sunday evening (7 August).

The Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team were called to the scene alongside the North West Ambulance Service and the North West Air Ambulance.

A spokesperson for the mountain rescue team said: “We were called to assist with a casualty who had taken a fall from a horse.

“With the assistance of a local farmer the casualty was transported to the helicopter for onward transport to hospital – we wish them a speedy recovery.”

The patient was taken to Salford Royal.

The callout follows one last week, which saw the mountain rescue volunteers called to help a woman who had fallen on the embankment of Watergrove Reservoir on the afternoon of 3 August.

The spokesperson added: "At the moment water levels are very low at reservoirs exposing parts we rarely see day to day. These parts can be very unstable, what looks like a solid banking can often be soft sand and silt and it’s very easy to become stuck or have a nasty fall; please be careful and don’t take risks.

"The lady was lucky and taken to hospital by the ambulance crew and we wish her a speedy recovery too."

The ambulance service has also been contacted for comment.
