Rochdale man's body recovered in Cumbria after search for missing paddleboarder

The body of a man from Rochdale has been recovered from a lake by police in Cumbria.

Police had been leading a search after the man, in his mid-20s, was reported to have got into difficulties whilst paddleboarding on Ullswater on Sunday (8 August).

The family of the missing man have been made aware of developments in the search.

However, formal identification has yet to take place.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Speaking on Thursday afternoon, a spokesperson for Cumbria police said: “The body of a man has been recovered from the water late this afternoon (11 August) by search teams who have been leading a search at Ullswater this week.

“The search team were deployed after a man in his mid-20s and from the Rochdale area was reported to have got into difficulties whilst paddleboarding on Ullswater on Sunday and was unaccounted for.

“The incident occurred at around 1.10pm on Sunday, in the vicinity of Aira Point, near to the ferry stop.”
