Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Norman Road
Expected start and finish: 8am, Saturday 17 August 2024 – 6pm, Sunday 18 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Norman Road, from its junction with Dane Street to a point 470 metres in a south westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route will be signed onsite.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To carry out emergency repairs on a frame and cover on Greenhill Avenue
Expected start and finish: Wednesday 31 July 2024 – Wednesday 21 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Greenhill Avenue. This will start from its junction with Chaseley Road and continue to a point 14 metres away in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic is Greenhill Avenue, Clarkes Lane, Edmund Street and Chaseley Road.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface School Lane and Church Stile
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Monday 5 August 2024 – Monday 26 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- School Lane, for its entire length.
- Church Stile, from its junction with Sparrow Hill to a point 80 metres away in a north easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation. Pedestrian access won't be affected.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Shawclough Way, Holstein Avenue and Burwell Close
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Wednesday 7 August 2024 – Wednesday 28 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- Shawclough Way, from its junction with Shawclough Road to a point 106 metres away in a north easterly direction.
- Holstein Avenue, for its entire length.
- Burwell Close, for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation. Pedestrian access won't be affected.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install telecoms ducting - Bentinck Street
Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 12 August 2024 – 4pm, Friday 16 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Bentinck Street. This will run from its junction with Rooley Moor Road to a point 15 metres away in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Bentinck Street, Thrush Street, Beaufort Street and Rooley Moor Road.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To carry out Highway Maintenance works on Union Road
Expected start and finish: 8pm, Tuesday 13 August 2024 – 6am, Friday 16 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Union Road. This will start at its junction with Halifax Road and continue to its junction with Old Hall Mews.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To carry out highway maintenance works on John Street, Spotland Road and Hunters Lane
Expected start and finish: 8pm, Tuesday 13 August 2024 – 6am, Friday 16 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- John Street, from its junction with St Mary's Gate to New Baillie Street.
- Spotland Road, from its junction with St Mary's Gate to Holland Street.
- Hunters Lane, from its junction with St Mary's Gate to Toad Lane.
Temporary prohibition of vehicles turning right on the following roads:
- John Street, turning right onto Baillie Street.
- Baillie Street, turning right onto John Street.
- St Mary's Gate, turning right onto John Street.
- St Mary's Gate, turning right onto Spotland Road.
- St Mary's Gate, turning right onto Hunters Lane.
The prohibitions listed above will only be enforced one at a time.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Bruce Street
Expected start and finish: 8am-6pm each day, Wednesday 14 August 2024 – Wednesday 4 September 2024 as required.
Restriction and location: Bruce Street will be temporarily closed for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Chatburn Avenue
Expected start and finish: 8am-6pm each day, Wednesday 14 August 2024 – Wednesday 4 September 2024 as required.
Restriction and location: Chatburn Avenue will be temporarily closed for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Gipsy Lane
Expected start and finish: 8am-6pm each day, Wednesday 14 August 2024 – Wednesday 4 September 2024 as required.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Gipsy Lane. This will be from its junction with Manchester Road to its junction with Royle Barn Road.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface roads in Bamford
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Thursday 15 August 2024 – Thursday 5 September 2024 as required.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- Rouse Street, for its entire length.
- Disley Street, for its entire length.
- Oulder Hill Drive, from outside Number 32 Oulder Hill Drive to a point 40 metres away in a north easterly direction.
- Greenwich Close, for its entire length.
- Chepstow Close, for its entire length.
Alternative route:The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Corbett Street and surrounding roads
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Friday 16 August 2024 – Wednesday 18 September 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads. Each road will be closed for its entire length.
- Corbett Street
- Aboukir Street
- George Street
- Medley Street
Alternative route: Alternative routes will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair highway gullies on Matthew Moss Lane
Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 19 August 2024 – 6pm, Wednesday 21 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Matthew Moss Lane, from its junction with Bolton Road to a point 25 metres away in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on site.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Brooks End
Expected start and finish: 8am-6pm each day, Monday 19 August 2024 – Monday 9 September 2024 as required.
Restriction and location: Brooks End will be temporarily closed for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface Keepers Drive
Expected start and finish: 8am-6pm each day, Monday 19 August 2024 – Monday 9 September 2024 as required.
Restriction and location: Keepers Drive will be temporarily closed for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.

Reason: To resurface Kendal Avenue
Expected start and finish: 8am-6pm each day, Monday 19 August 2024 – Monday 9 September 2024 as required.
Restriction and location: Kendal Avenue will be temporarily closed for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To carry out water works on Nigher Moss Avenue
Expected start and finish: 8am-6pm, Tuesday 20 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Nigher Moss Avenue. This will be from its junction with Kingsway to a point 40 metres away in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Kingsway, Milnrow Road, Bingley Road, Adrian Terrace and Nigher Moss Avenue.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface roads in Passmonds, Meanwood and Spotland
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Wednesday 21 August 2024 – Wednesday 11 September 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- Baildon Road, for its entire length.
- Phoenix Street, for its entire length.
- Churchill Street, from its junction with Rooley Moor Road to a point 160 metres in a southerly direction.
- Clarkes Lane, from its junction with Spotland Road to a point 395 metres in a north easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation. Pedestrian access won't be affected.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To carry out gas main replacement works on Vavasour Walk
Expected start and finish: Wednesday 28 August 2024 – Friday 27 September 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Vavasour Walk, for its entire length.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a new water connection on River Street
Expected start and finish: 8am, Saturday 31 August 2024 – 5pm, Sunday 1 September 2024
Restriction and location:
- Temporary closure of River Street, from a point 95 metres north of its junction with Water Street to a point 30 metres away in a north westerly direction.
- Temporary suspension of the one way system on River Street and Faulkner Street. Vehicles will be able to travel along the north carriageway of River Street and Faulkner Street in both directions.
Alternative route: The alternative route for motorists wishing to access the southerly carriageway of River Street will be the northerly carriageway of River Street and Faulkner Street.
Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Middleton
Reason: To resurface the road - Kingsway
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day Saturday 27 July 2024 – Saturday 17 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closures along the following roads:
- Kingsway, from the roundabout with Andover Avenue and Mainway East, to the roundabout with Hardfield Road and Mount Road.
- Kenyon Lane, for its entire length.
- Lever Walk, for its entire length.
- Birchwood Road, from its junction with Kenyon Lane to its junction with Monmouth Street.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in operation.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To resurface Bowness Road
Expected start and finish: 9am–4pm each day, Monday 29 July 2024 – Monday 19 August 2024 as required.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- Bowness Road, from its junction with Windermere Road to its junction with Broomfield Crescent.
- Wythburn Road, for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To resurface the road - Nowell Road
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Wednesday 31 July 2024 – Wednesday 21 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Nowell Road, for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To install utilities in the road - Langley Lane
Expected start and finish: Thursday 8 August 2024 – 7pm, Thursday 22 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary one-way working along a section of Langley Lane. This will start from its westerly junction with Knight Crescent and continue to its junction with Heywood Old Road. Vehicles won't be allowed to travel in an easterly direction between these 2 points.
Vehicles won't be allowed to turn left or right from Heywood Old Road onto Langley Lane.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Langley Lane in an easterly direction is Heywood Old Road, Manchester Road, Queen Elizabeth Way, Middleton Road, Hollin Lane and Langley Lane.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To replace a damaged telecoms pole on Norman Street
Expected start and finish: Thursday 8 August 2024 – Thursday 29 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Norman Street. This will start at its junction with Hilton Fold Lane and continue to its junction with Amy Street.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Hilton Fold Lane, Green Street and Amy Street.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To resurface Mossway and Gloucester Road
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Friday 9 August 2024 – Friday 30 August 2024 as required.
Restriction and location:
- Temporary closure of Mossway, from its junction with Manchester New Road for a distance of 300 metres in a south easterly direction.
- Temporary closure of Gloucester Road, from its junction with Kingsway to its junction with Alcester Close.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To resurface the road - Towncroft Avenue
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Saturday 10 August 2024 – Saturday 31 August 2024 as required.
Restriction and location:
- Temporary closure of Towncroft Avenue, from its junction with Springfield Road to the end in a westerly direction.
- Temporary closure of Clough Road for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out bridge works - Boothroyden Road
Expected start and finish: Monday 12 August 2024 – Monday 11 August 2025.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Boothroyden Road. This will start at a point 34 metres south of its junction with Boothroyden Close and continue for a distance of 27 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.
Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out required works to pavement and road on the Queens Park Road bridge and help traffic flow.
Expected start and finish: January 2024 – December 2024.
Restriction and location:
- Introduce one-way working in a northerly direction along Queens Park Road, from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road in so far as vehicles will not be permitted to travel along Queens Park Road in a southerly direction from its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road,
- Introduce one-way working in a southerly direction along Bamford Road from its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road in so far as vehicles will not be permitted to travel along Bamford Road in a northerly direction from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road,
Alternative routes:
- The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Queens Park Road in a southerly direction from Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road is via Bury and Rochdale Old Road (B6222), Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58) and Queens Park Road.
- The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Bamford Road in a northerly direction from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to Bury and Rochdale Old Road is via Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58), Queens Park Road and Bury and Rochdale Old Road.
Area: Heywood
Reason: To install new traffic calming measures - Egerton Street and Coomassie Street
Expected start and finish: 9.30am-3.30pm every day between Monday 24 June 2024 - Friday 16 August 2024.
Restriction and location
- Temporary closure of Egerton Street from its junction with Coomassie Street to its junction with Pilsworth Road for a distance of 340 metres in a westerly direction.When Egerton Street is closed Coomassie Street will be open.
- Temporary closure of Coomassie Street from its junction with Egerton Street to its junction of Cartridge Street for a distance of 220 metres in a northerly direction. When Coomassie Street is closed Egerton Street will be open.
Alternative routes:
- The alternative route for vehicles wanting to access Egerton Street will be Hind Hill Street, Church Street, Market Place, Market Street, Bridge Street and Pilsworth Road.
- The alternative route for vehicles wanting to access Coomassie Street will be Egerton Street, Pilsworth Road, Tower Street and Cartridge Street.
Area: Heywood
Reason: To resurface Magdala Street and Wolsey Street
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Wednesday 31 July 2024 – Wednesday 21 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- Magdala Street, for its entire length.
- Wolsey Street, for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in place.
Area: Heywood
Reason: To resurface Cherwell Avenue
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Thursday 1 August 2024 – Thursday 22 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closures of the following roads:
- Cherwell Avenue, for its entire length.
- Clemshaw Close, for its entire length.
- Margaret Street, for its entire length.
- Lyn Grove, for its entire length.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in operation.
Area: Heywood
Reason: To resurface the road
Expected start and finish: 8am-6pm each day from Monday 12 August 2024 – Monday 2 September 2024.
Restriction and location: The following roads will be closed for their entire lengths:
- Goldcraft Close
- Goldbrook Close
- Hall Street
- Willow Street
Alternative route: The alternative routes for vehicles will be signposted on the street while works take place.
Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out works to the road and pavement on Queens Park Road Bridge.
Expected start and finish:
- 8pm–7am each day, Monday 19 August 2024 – Friday 23 August 2024

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Queens Park Road. This will start from the junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road and continue south to the entrance to Queens Park Car Park.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Bury and Rochdale Old Road, Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street and Queens Park Road.
Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out an excavation in Fox Street
Expected start and finish: 7am, Tuesday 27 August 2024 – 7pm, Monday 2 September 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Fox Street. This will start at its junction with Bethel Street and continue for 50 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route:
- For westbound traffic, the alternative route will be Fox Street, Bethel Street, Market Street and Hill Street.
- For eastbound traffic, the alternative route will be Hill Street, Mary Street and Taylor Street.
Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Pennines
Reason: To carry out gas mains replacement work in the road and pavement - St James Street
Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 5 August 2024 – 6pm, Friday 30 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of St James Street. This will start at its junction with Kiln Lane and continue to its junction with Chapel Gate. Access will be provided if required and safe to do so.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Kiln Lane, Simeon Street, Chapel Gate and St James Street.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To resurface some roads in Smallbridge
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm, Tuesday 27 August 2024 – Tuesday 17 September 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- Steps Meadow, for its entire length.
- Bellshill Crescent, from its junction with Albert Royds Street to a point 50 metres away in a north easterly direction.
- Alternative route
The alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in operation.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To resurface some roads in Littleborough Lakeside
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Wednesday 28 August 2024 – Wednesday 18 September 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- Wood Bank Road, for its entire length.
- Milbury Drive, for its entire length.
- Rakewood Road, from its junction with Bear Hill to a point 210 metres away in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative routes will be signed on street when the closures are in operation.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To resurface some roads in Milnrow and Newhey
Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, Saturday 31 August 2024 – Saturday 21 September 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:
- Raines Crest
- Pearson Close
- Bealcroft Close
- Whitfield Crescent
Each road will be closed for its entire length during the closure. Pedestrian access won't be affected.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.
