Rochdale man and his rescue dog to tackle West Highland Way for children's charity

Local fundraiser Wesley Dowd and his dog Butch are gearing up for a 100-mile trek through the Scottish Highlands, all in support of Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home.
The Man of Rochdale is once again embarking on the extraordinary adventure with his Jack Russell, which will be completed this month.
Wes is well-known locally for his fundraising efforts for the Moorland Home and is usually joined by his loyal dog, Finley, who – in Wes’ own words – “has covered more miles than a transit van.”
The Jack Russell retired from charity walks last year, and Wes' younger dog, Butch, picked up the mantle to join Wes on his adventures.
Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home, the town's oldest children's charity, was established in 1894. The charity offers much-needed holidays to disadvantaged children from the Rochdale and Rossendale boroughs.
However, despite its long history and vital role in the community, the charity receives no government funding, relying entirely on the generosity of local residents and fundraising efforts to continue its work.
Wesley, who is no stranger to supporting local causes, shared his motivation for the walk: “I will be taking on the West Highland Way 100-mile walk with Butch the rescue dog in September in aid of Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home.”
He added: “Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home is the oldest children's charity in Rochdale. Founded in 1894, they provide holidays, in their picturesque setting, to underprivileged children from the Rochdale and Rossendale boroughs. They receive £0 in government funding and rely solely on generous donations and fundraisers."
At the time of writing, Wesley's fundraising efforts have already garnered an impressive £1,135. However, he is hoping to raise even more for this worthy cause.
