Man hospitalised after suspected 'medical episode' behind the wheel causes car smash

A driver was rushed to hospital after a suspected medical episode behind the wheel caused a crash with three other vehicles.
The man, whose age has not yet been confirmed, is believed to have suffered an episode and crashed into the vehicles on Eastway in Middleton on Sunday afternoon (September 22).
Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 4.20pm, and police put a cordon blocking Eastway and nearby Chapel Street.
Rochdale Online understands that the driver is in critical condition.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), said: “At around 4.35pm on Sunday (September 22) one fire engine from Heywood Community Fire Station attended a crash involving four vehicles on Eastway, Middleton.
“Crews assisted colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service in making the vehicles and surrounding area safe and were in attendance for around 30 minutes.”
Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.
