2024 Rochdale Pride parade and celebrations
Pride is returning to the borough of Rochdale on Sunday 22 June, with another parade and celebrations to raise awareness and celebrate LGBTQ+ communities.
Last year the attendance far exceeded expectations with members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies across the borough showing solidarity in their masses. The Esplanade outside Rochdale Town Hall was saturated in rainbow colours as everyone proudly waved their pride progress flags and banners.
This year’s parade will start at 12.30pm and will again loop around the pedestrianised area on The Esplanade in front of the town hall, and the celebrations will continue in the building’s Great Hall where everyone can enjoy refreshments, music and entertainment and meet a variety of stall holders. The event will close at 4pm.
Councillor Susan Smith, cabinet member for communities and co-operation for Rochdale Borough Council, said: “We are proud of the cooperative nature of Rochdale in Rainbows Pride, so many local partners, businesses, community groups, and residents will all come together to celebrate the borough of Rochdale’s Pride parade and celebrations. It is also a time to reflect on the progress made towards equality while acknowledging there is still so much more to do. We are committed to supporting and celebrating equality, equity, inclusion, and respect for everyone, which are at the heart of our events that I am sure everyone will enjoy.”
Councillor Daalat Ali, joint deputy leader of Rochdale Borough Council, and cabinet member for public health and wellbeing said: “This year will build on the success of last year making our 2025 celebrations another year to remember. There are so many enthusiastic people in the borough of Rochdale committed to celebrating and supporting our LGBTQ+ community. Pride is a time when LGBTQ+ communities come together and reflect on how far we’ve come, as well as acknowledge how much there is still to do."
