Littleborough’s Rushbearing Festival continued this morning (Sunday 21 July) as the traditional Rushcart made its way into Littleborough Town Square.

Leaving the Moorcock Inn, the Rushcart continued to The Rake, The Red Lion and onto Canal Street before stopping at Littleborough Town Square.

Six Morris dancing groups escorted the Rushcart: Thieving Magpie, Hornbeam Molly, Rhubarb Tarts, Persephone, Sowerby Bridge Morris Dancers and Ryden Long Sword.

The groups danced at The Moorcock Inn before setting off on the parade and danced at each stop on their journey.

Littleborough Rushbearing was revived in 1991 by Rochdale Morris and since 2012 the Thieving Magpie, from Mardsen, have co-ordinated the festival in conjunction with Littleborough Association and Events Forum (LEAF).

Steve Lister, Chairman of LEAF, said: “It’s another great day.”
