Charity helps disadvantaged children

Date published: 23 July 2013

Happy Days children’s charity is dedicated to providing holidays, residential trips, days out, and theatre trips for disadvantaged young people with special needs. Working alongside Springside School in Rochdale, the charity helps the children experience opportunities that they might never get chance to experience.

The charity has been working with the Rochdale school for almost four years. Deputy Head of Springside School, Elaine Dutton said: “The charity has been absolutely fabulous. They have arranged a number of trips including our upcoming Liverpool museum and ferry trip and arranged for some Dancing on Ice stars to come to the school.”

The latest outing with a group of 80 children aged 3-11 years was to Liverpool Museum along with a trip on one of the ferries. Children from key stage one went on Tuesday 9 July and key stage two went on Wednesday 10 July.

Elaine added: “The trips are important because some children don’t get chance to go out with their parents due to transport. The charity has really helped with transport and a lot of our money goes towards that.”

Happy Days Children’s charity is based in Luton and is a small company that works throughout the UK.

Caroline Fonseca, the day trip and bookings organiser for the charity said: “We are a small company with only ten people in the office. We keep our costs low so we can use as much money as we can on the trips and holidays.”

She added: “Not only do we help groups of people but we also help with holidays for families with an income of under £25,000. We send the families on UK based holidays.”
