Jonathan Cleary jailed for two rapes
A man has been jailed for 11 years for raping a woman twice.
Jonathan Cleary (10/12/1988) of no fixed address pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and one count of harassment at earlier hearings and was sentenced yesterday, Wednesday 1 April 2015 at Minshull Street Crown Court.
In January 2012, Cleary and his victim, who was 22 at the time, were at a party in Middleton and on returning home he raped her in the bedroom of the house.
In June 2013, he raped the same woman at an address in Middleton.
In January 2014, he sent the victim messages on social media, threatening her with serious violence. Fearing for her safety, she contacted the police.
Detective Constable Rachel Wood said: “The victim was completely terrified of Cleary who took advantage of her fear by raping her. He subjected her to terrifying attacks but thanks to her bravery at coming forward and supporting a prosecution, justice has been served.
“This sentencing proves no matter how long ago a crime was committed, we will fully investigate each case. It also shows the determination of officers to ensure those responsible for such horrific attacks are put behind bars.”
