Liz McInnes supports Norden residents' fight to save Heritage Green

Date published: 20 October 2015

Liz McInnes, Labour Member of Parliament for Heywood and Middleton, has pledged her support to residents in the fight to preserve a popular green space in Norden.

Plans to sell Heritage Green, located at the junction of Cut Lane and Caldershaw Road, were revealed earlier this year before being put on hold by Rochdale Council.

Since then, the Friends of Heritage Green group and local people – including Norden Councillors Jim Gartside, Michael Holly and Peter Winkler – have campaigned to stop the sale and preserve the much-loved area.

Ms McInnes said: "I fully support the Friends of Heritage Green group and all local residents who are opposed to the plans to sell this land. Heritage Green is a much-used and much-loved area, and is somewhere all local children and families can play safely outdoors. We’re fast running out of places for our children to do that, and the campaign to get ‘village green’ status for the site has my full backing."

Norden Councillor Jim Gartside said: "It is wonderful how the Friends of Heritage Green group have done so much to get so many people involved in their campaign to save the site. Everyone is keen to keep the village atmosphere we have engendered over the years. All three councillors support the residents fully, and we are delighted that Liz is lending her support to the campaign."
