Boxing: Aeron Maddocks wins

Date published: 16 May 2017

Aeron Maddocks beat Tyler Sutton at Whitby Sports Club in Liverpool despite getting the shock of his life in the first minute of the first round when Sutton, of Wirral Boxing Club, immediately set about the Hamer boxer on the sound of the first bell.

Sutton chased Maddocks around the ring with swinging, right armed punches that landed to the head and body.

At first Maddocks struggled to match his opponent, so he began to use the ring while picking out his jab and the odd one-two combination.

Sutton continued to chase his opponent around the ring but as the round progressed the contest began to take shape with Maddocks beginning to land two and three punch combinations to the head before stepping out of range.

In the second round Maddocks continued to use his feet to step into range and land combinations to the head while his now tiring opponent continued with his swinging tactics that were beginning to miss.

This went on throughout the round but towards the end Maddocks began to get a little bolder and take the fight to his opponent when Sutton backed off after receiving a three-punch combination to the head.

The bell rang for round three and Maddocks immediately set to the task ahead and he began to land his double jab to force Sutton onto the ropes. The Rochdale boxer began to unload swift combination punches to the head before stepping out of range.

Sutton was now very tired while the Hamer boxer's fitness continued to show as he glided around the ring while throwing fast combinations that gained him the win by split-decision.
