Rugby League: Bring on Siddal, say Mayfield

Date published: 14 June 2017

After their outsanding performance last week Mayfield will have to go one better this week as they host league leaders Siddal at the Mayfield Sports centre on Friday night.

Siddal are the form team having won all eleven games this season racking up almost forty points per game and conceding an average of less than twelve points.

This will be the toughest test of the season for Matt Calland's side but they will go into it brimming with confidence after their demolition of Thatto Heath.

Calland will be hoping to welcome back Paul Brearley and Si Moore to the squad and this will make selection a tough job for the coaches.

Siddal will not give them the same opportunities as Thatto so Mayfield will have to work hard to create the chances, but they have the players to do that.

Another pleasing aspect of last week’s game was the improvement in discipline; whilst the sending off was disappointing there were fewer penalties and better ball retention which is definitely what will be needed on Friday night.

Mayfield have moved up to fourth spot in the Kingstone Press Premier Division and are looking for victory in this one to consolidate that position and to push on in the coming weeks.
