Rugby League: Mayfield Preview

Date published: 22 June 2017

Mayfield play hosts to mid table Myton on Saturday afternoon.

Hull based Myton are currently just below half way in the Kingstone Press NCL Premier Division having won six and lost six and are giving a decent account of themselves in this toughest of divisions.

Mayfield are one of the best teams in this division with recent great performances and results against the top placed teams Siddal and Thatto Heath, and if they take that into the game they should have enough to overcome the visitors and if other results go for them Mayfield could move up the table to second place.

Coaches Matt Calland and Sam Butterworth must be ruing the missed opportunities earlier in the season when games that should have been won weren’t.

Callum Marriott is back in contention for a shirt after missing the last two and that will be a massive boost to a team that is already brimming with confidence.

Myton had no game last week and so should come into this game fully rested and raring to go, so Calland has been preparing his side for a game that could start quickly as they look to get back in action.

Saturday’s game is sponsored by Dean Hartley and his Buckley Hall Massive.

Dave Harmer and Marvin Connolly take their NWML side back into action Saturday afternoon for the first time in a month as they make the short trip to face Bury Broncos.

Table topping Mayfield are chomping at the bit after the unscheduled break in their season and the coaches are hoping that their momentum hasn’t been disrupted.

The break means they have had a chance to clear up any injuries and they have prepared well for the return to action.

Broncos are in the bottom half of the table but are a better side than their league position suggests, so Mayfield will be taking the game very seriously as they look to get back to winning ways.
