Cricket: Greg Butterworth stars as Norden defeat Austerlands

Date published: 31 July 2017

Greg Butterworth was man of the match as Norden defeated Austerlands at Stag Park on Saturday.

He took three for 47 then hit an unbeaten 43 as Norden chased down a target of 161.

The fact Austerlands managed to get to 160 was mainly down to Joe Malloy who opened the innings and was still there at the end of it with 69 to his name.

The anchor man batted well, if not spectacularly, but he was helpless as wickets tumbled.
Rashid survived a strong appeal for a catch behind, but two balls later he was out, caught behind by Ash Gowers off a Chris Humphreys delivery.

It was also quite a day for Gowers who later hit an unbeaten 47.

Next to go was professional Shanuka Dulaj who presented Simon North with a routine catch.

Morrison was pouched by Dom Humphreys between point and gully to make it 61 for three, then Ross Collin took the first of two good catches to end a short knock from Adam Young and give Butterworth his first wicket of the day.

It became 88 for five when Dom Humphreys took another catch, but Austerlands then rallied as Malloy at last found a staying partner in Craig Joy.

They pushed the score along at a fair pace to 134 before Simon North struck in his first over by bowling Joy for 28.

Lee Milner was caught by Ross Collin diving forward at long off, and the last two wickets fell to Butterworth from successive deliveries.

Norden’s reply had reached 16 when Steve Pimm tried to knock the cover off the ball and only succeeded in skying for Joy to move from behind the stumps and take the catch on the drop.

Milner picked up another wicket when Josh Tollley was caught by Inkpen.

Dom Humphreys batted well for his 33, but he was third out when Dulaj took a return catch, and Harvey Fitton quickly followed, leg before to Inkpen without playing a shot.

At 97 for four Norden still had some work to do, but it was done in style by Gowers and Butterworth.

The latter hit three sixes in his knock, while Gowers slammed two – the second ending the match.
