Cricket: Rochdale Thirds Roydes Trophy T20 triumph

Date published: 02 August 2017

Rochdale Third XI claimed the club’s first silverware of the season when they won the Pennine League’s Roydes Trophy T20 competition on Sunday at Saddleworth.

They first disposed of Glodwick in the semi-finals, during which Rochdale batsman Jack Duffy blasted 32 runs off one over.

Glodwick had made only 99 in their 20 overs with Duffy taking five wickets. Duffy then got to work with bat and Dale won with 9 overs left.

Then in the final they restricted Royton to 119 for nine, before knocking the runs off with over two overs to spare.

Kabir Ahmed with 45 not out led the charge and they passed their target with only four wickets down.

The trophy, named in the memory of Middleton stalwart Trevor Roydes, was presented to Rochdale captain Adam Saville by Elaine Roydes, Trevor’s widow.

Jack Duffy won the man-of-the-day award.
