Rugby League: Mayfield Preview

Date published: 03 August 2017

Saturday is a big day in the Kingstone Press NCL Premier Division with the top four teams, which includes Mayfield, all playing each other.

High flying Siddal travel to second placed Thatto Heath while fourth placed Mayfield entertain third placed Wath Brow.

A win at the Mayfield Sports Centre on Saturday would be a great result for Mayfield and see them leap frog their opponents.

Wath Brow are a tough team to beat and will arrive at Mayfield looking for the win.

The reverse fixture in May was a classic ending in a 12 - 12 draw.

Mayfield are still missing a couple of players with Seta Tala and Sean Watkins still suspended while Paul Brearley will be testing his injury out before Calland and Butterworth name their side.

If Mayfield play to their potential, respect possession and maintain their discipline this is a game they believe they can win.

The NWML side are on the road with a visit to Leigh East.

East have had a mixed season with some goodt results but also heavy defeats.

Mayfield coaches Dave Harmer and Marvin Connolly say they are going there to win and beat whoever is put out against them.

Mayfield have players returning after going with the NCL side last week and will be sending a strong squad to Leigh.

Last week’s results mean there are now three teams who can win the league, with Manchester Rangers and Widnes Tigers both having games in hand on Mayfield.

Mayfield need to be win every game to keep their dream alive.
