Boxing: Monir Miah wins first bout for Hamer

Date published: 08 February 2018

Monir Miah made the perfect start to the new year when he travelled to Wilmslow Leisure Centre on Friday (2 February) to contest in his first ever boxing bout for Hamer Amateur Boxing Club.

In the opposite corner stood Tanagorn Nakborka of Macclesfield Boys ABC who immediately showed his intent when he began to attack Miah on the sound of the first bell.

The Macclesfield boxer constantly looked to land his big punches whilst the Hamer lad was content on leaning on his back foot whilst waiting to counter-punch.

Nakborka began to land fast punches and all Miah could do was to answer with single returns.

As the round continued Miah began to find his distance and he landed a terrific lead left hook which clearly hurt his opponent.

Nakborka stepped back to clear his head but Miah did not pursue  him which allowed the Macclesfield boxer to regain his composure.

Nakborka forced Miah into a corner and he began unloading heavy punches to both the body and head. Miah replied with hurtful punches of his own followed by a crunching right hand to the jaw which forced the referee to step in and administer a standing eight count to his Macclesfield opponent.

At the start of the second round Nakborka stormed out of his corner throwing big punches and all Miah could do was keep a tight guard before returning punches of his own.

It was a fast and furious contest that had the crowd up on its feet as Nakborka constantly forced Miah onto the ropes.

The Macclesfield boxer continued to land fast punches.

Miah caught his opponent with a lead left hook and Nakborka stepped back again, but this time Miah forced his opponent on to the ropes where he landed some powerful punches to the head.

Both boxers were very tired going into the third and last round but Nakborka began to force the pace throwing heavy blows.

Miah replied with crunching hooks.

All three judges awarded Miah the victory by unanimous decision.

Hamer coach Steven Connellan said: "It was a good first fight for Monir but I would have liked him to use his jab a bit more.

"We also picked upon a couple more things that he needed to do so we will work on them in the gym.

"His opponent had already had three contests so I cannot be too fussy regarding his performance.”
