Football: Calvin Andrew signs Rochdale contract extension

Date published: 26 June 2018

Calvin Andrew has signed a one-year extension to his current deal, keeping him contracted to the Rochdale AFC until 2020.

A key player both on and off the pitch, the 31-year-old made 40 appearances for Rochdale during the 2017/18 campaign, and has featured 159 times for Rochdale since his arrival at the Crown Oil Arena in 2014.

Andrew said: “I’ve been at a few clubs during my career, but the atmosphere and the working environment at Rochdale is brilliant. I get on with all the staff, the backroom staff and the players. It’s a real family club - my dad loves coming to games and he gets on with everyone as well, so there’s a good atmosphere for players and for people on and off the pitch.

“The way we finished last season has made us excited to come back in and to do better than we did last season. It has brought everyone closer together - we really needed togetherness to achieve what we did last season and to stay up, so we’re all really looking forward to getting back in and start working.

“Nobody wants to be in that type of position, and that has got to set a fire for all the players, me included, to do better. We should be achieving more than we did last season with the types of players that we’ve got here, so it’s exciting to be preparing to come back in for the start of a new season.”
