Cricket: Norden’s poor run continued with defeat at Ramsbottom

Date published: 02 July 2018

Norden’s poor run continued in the Lancashire League on Saturday when they went down at Ramsbottom.

They were undone by the bowling of Jon Fielding who took five for 33, and professional Werner Coetsee who took three for 19, and subsided to an all out 132.

A slowish wicket was not great for run scoring, and Ramsbottom needed 44 overs to reach their winning target.

Stags made their way to 26 without loss, but a clutter of wickets then saw them on 69 for five, with Harvey Fitton, Joe Humphreys, Dominic Humphreys, Jake Sandham and Josh Tolley back in the shed.

Greg Butterworth and Steve Pimm pulled the innings round with a partnership of 59 before Butterworth was caught  by Jon Fielding.

Pimm grafted 56 deliveries for his 27, but he was one of those who perished as a long tail-end saw five wickets fall for only four runs.

It never looked like being enough for Norden, but the bowling of Jake Sandham, Hashum Malik and Greg Butterworth didn’t make it easy for Ramsbottom.

Ramsbottom lost their top four batsmen for 84, and had six down for 120, but they got home without further loss.

Sandham finished with three for 35 off 13 overs, and Malik took two for 24 off 15.
