Cricket: Heywood Cricket Clubs teams for the weekend

Date published: 07 September 2018

It’s crunch time for Heywood’s first and second teams on Saturday.

The senior side go to bottom club Denton West knowing that victory is vital in their bid to stave off relegation from the Greater Manchester Premier League for a second time in three seasons.

Heywood are fourth bottom and battling to avoid joining West, Edgworth and Greenmount taking the drop. Their final match is a week on Saturday at home to Clifton.

The 2nd X1 entertain Denton at Crimble knowing that a five-point victory will lift them above their opponents into second place behind champions elect Hollinwood. Two teams will be promoted from Division 4 East.

And Heywood would be favourites to win their final match away to bottom-of-the-table Saddleworth the following week.

Meanwhile, the third team have a Sunday date at Woodbank hoping the build on last weekend’s home victory over Egerton.

Matt Hood shone with 67 as Heywood made 154 from their 40 overs. Other vital contributions came from Mikey Grogan (27) and Tom Sullivan (20).

Then Heywood toppled the visitors for 104 as Olivia Thomas underlined her promise with 5-28 from 6.1 overs of leg-spin, and Sullivan completed his rewarding all-round display by bagging 3-18.
