Sailing: Battle with the wind causes boats to capsize at Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club

Date published: 11 September 2018

The Toppers were out in force at Hollingworth Lake on Sunday with Daisy, Hector, Jacob, Myles and Loucas battling the challenging wind to claim victory against each other, with a few boats capsizing.

Nigel Davey sailed well in his Solo to win races one and two but spent the third one upside down along with Les.

Nick Brook, after a couple of second places, won the third race in a Solo, chasing Stuart Bates and Andy Hilton in a Merlin Rocket.

The wind had died down quite a bit in the third race making it easier for racing. Overall, Daisy Fisher in a Topper was third, with Nick Brook second while Nigel Davey won the day.

Over the weekend, the cub was competing in the annual 24-hour race at Southport on the Marine Lake. With 77 boats racing in this classic relay race, the club finished 29th overall, and second placed masters team.
