Cricket: Heywood Seconds end on a high

Date published: 19 September 2018

Heywood’s second team ended their Division Four East season in the Greater Manchester League with a thumping win at Saddleworth.

Saddleworth could muster only 10 batsmen and closed on 60-9 in just 17 overs.

Chris Kaye led the way for Heywood with 5-13 from five overs, Cav Hilton backed him up with 3-19 and Tom Pagett claimed the other wicket.

Heywood then slumped to 8-2 in reply before Rob Bennett and Olivia Thomas made sure there were no further alarms with a partnership of 55.

Bennett provided the bulk of the scoring with 41 from 64 balls as Heywood comfortably reached 63-2 at the start of the 22nd over.

Heywood therefore finished third in the table, just missing out on the promotion places occupied by champions Hollinwood, and Denton.
