Rugby Union: Littleborough Girls U18s at Rochdale Girls Festival

Date published: 06 November 2018

Littleborough Under 18s found themselves up against some highly organised units that had been together for some time at Rochdale Girls Festival on Sunday (4 November).

However, the determination and communication saw them put on a spirited display that they can be proud of.

A difficult first game against Old Crossleyans saw them play large chunks of the game without the ball and while the Yorkshire side found the white wash. Littleborough never gave up and could have had their own scores, had they looked after the ball a bit better.

Despite this, and after a little rest, they produced one of the performances of the day against Burnley.

Starting with 14 with captain Georgia Turner feeling a little under the weather, Littleborough ran with pace and guile, a constant threat with the likes of Maisie Webb, Carla Taylor and Nayab Mahal.

Littleborough found their breakthrough with a try from the returning Georgia Turner as she collected Chloe Boardman's offload to crash over.

This started a frantic try fest as in the space of the next five minutes there were three tries.

First Burnley drew level before Devon Hensby bullied her way to the try line from close range.

Straight from the restart, Erin Stott picked up the long-range kick and danced her way through five tackles to dot down under the sticks. A superb try capped off another excellent performance for the fly half.

Burnley couldn't find a way back into it as Littleborough held on for a fitting victory. This was also the first Littleborough win for debutant Lauren Fretwell, who impressed with her defensive display and her attitude.
