MMA: Charlotte Brown Amateur World Championship quarter finalist

Date published: 16 November 2018

Rochdale cagefighter Charlotte ‘Bomber’ Brown fought two hard bouts at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation Amateur World Championships in Bahrain this week, reaching the quarter finals.

Brown, who trains at Full Contact Performance Centre, was selected for the UK to compete in the female Bantam weight division, the first local woman to take part in the competition.

Mixed Martial Arts, also known as cage-fighting, is a full-contact combat sport using techniques from a range of combat sports and martial arts.

Brown got off to a good start, defeating US opponent Fotini Kandris with a unanimous decision in round three on Tuesday (13 November). Brown won her bout two rounds to one, polling scores of 29-28 on all three scorecards.

However, Brown was defeated in her second fight of the contest a day later, against Romanian foe Daniela Mihaela Bulgaru.

Round two of the quarter finals was stopped at 36 seconds and Bulgaru declared the winner via TKO.

Speaking of the championships, Brown said: “Not the decision we wanted, I personally think my fight got stopped too early but it what it is, and I've given it my all, time to rest up and eat some good food.

“I'll be back out in the new year. Thank you all so much for your messages and support it means a lot.

“Thank you to each and every one of you for making this experience happen; I've enjoyed representing Full Contact and my country in Bahrain.”
