Rugby League: BARLA Lions shown around ‘Rochdale’, in honour of their famous son Apisai Toga

BARLA Lions visit Saunaka Village near Nadi, where Rochdale Hornets 1960s player, Apisai Toga, came from
BARLA Lions were taken around the village of Saunaka Village near Nadi, on Monday 19 November, by the Chief who introduced them to an area known as ‘Rochdale’, in honour of their famous son Apisai Toga who played for Rochdale Hornets in the mid-1960s. Apisai Toga had spoken fondly of the town before a stint in Australia with St George Dragons.
Dave Parkinson, Media Manager for the BARLA Tour in Fiji said: “Monday 19 November was a very humbling experience for the BARLA Lions as guests of the Saunaka Village near Nadi.
“The squad paid its respects at Apisai Toga graveside before being shown the church, school, kindergarten and the local rugby team's playing area and gymnasium.
“The Lions made new friends along the way with local children being gifted with rugby badges.”
