Golf: New members bar at Rochdale golf club opened

Date published: 18 March 2019

A new members bar at Rochdale Golf Club was officially opened by the new captain, Paul Cobby, and new lady captain, Janice Leonard, on Saturday (16 March).

The event preceded the captain’s drive-in, which is customary to the opening of the new golfing season. Despite the torrential downpour throughout the day there was an excellent turnout of members to witness the drive-in and enjoy the subsequent meal and disco.

There was a brief break in the weather during which Mr. Captain, Lady Captain and Junior Captain, Benedict Meech, accompanied by a short firework display, managed to safely get their drives away.

Mr. Captain driving 218 yards, Lady Captain 170 yards and the Junior Captain 215 yards.

Paul Cobby said: "It is an honour to be captain of such a prestigious and successful golf club, with one of the largest ladies sections in the north west."

He thanked everyone for a wonderful evening wishing them all good luck and the hope of excellent weather for the coming season.
