Cricket: Heywood named as venue for cup final

Date published: 13 May 2019

Heywood Cricket Club has been chosen as the venue for the county’s biggest club cricket final of the season.

The Lancashire Knockout Cup final, administered by the Lancashire Cricket Foundation, will be at the Crimble on 8 September 2019, the day after the Heywood’s last scheduled first team game of the season.

The Knockout Cup has 54 teams from across Lancashire. The qualifying teams participating are made up of the top seven teams from the Lancashire Cricket League, Northern League, Liverpool and District Cricket Competition, Greater Manchester Cricket League, Bolton Cricket League, Ribblesdale Cricket League, and the Palace Shield Cricket League. Also the top two teams from the Southport and District Amateur Cricket League and the Greater Manchester Amateur League and one from the Westmoreland Cricket League.

There is a reserve date of 15 September, should the original date become a victim of weather.

Heywood chairman John Rhodes said: “We are delighted to have been chosen to stage this prestigious cup final, and it underlines Heywood’s standing in the Lancashire set-up.

“It should make a fitting end to the season for senior cricket at Crimble, although that is some way off yet.”
