Cricket: Heywood teams for the weekend

Date published: 07 June 2019

Heywood Monkeys lead the way on another important coming weekend for the Club’s senior side.

They travel to Oldham club Moorside on Friday (7 June) for their fourth match in the Marston’s T20 Trophy group, having won two of their three matches to date.

Saturday sees the 1st X1 travel to Denton in Division 1A of the Greater Manchester League on the back of three consecutive victories.

The second team, meanwhile, hope for an action replay of last weekend’s 2nd X1 Premier Cup victory over Dukinfield when the two teams meet again at Crimble on Saturday.

The cup game saw Dukinfield make 139 from 36 overs, with Rob Bennett claiming 4-13 from just four overs. Lee Clarkson and Jacob Kaye each took a couple of wickets.

Heywood then chased down their victory target with only four wickets down in 35.3 overs. Opener Mikey Witts laid a platform with 31, then Chris Booth hit 39 and Lee Grogan an unbeaten 30.

Heywood third team’s proposed away trip to Denton in the first round of the Sunday Plate has been postponed until a later date.
