Rugby League: Mayfield preview

Date published: 07 June 2019

Sam Butterworth and Steve Wood take their Mayfield side to Cumbria on Saturday 8 June to play Egremont.

Their opponents have had a decent start to their season and are looking to push into the top three if they win.

Mayfield, who had a hard-fought victory last week against fellow strugglers Kells, are looking to consolidate that win by going for back to back victories for the first time this season.

Coach Sam Butterworth said: “A win at Egremont would be massive for Mayfield and it is definitely something they are capable of achieving.

“If the players stick to the game plan and the strategies worked on the training pitch this should be a cracking game and one that they are capable of winning.

“Mayfield have the making of a strong side and only need to play together and get used to one another before they start winning games and go on to secure their premier division status, we are supremely confident that these lads can do that.

“With John Stott, Cameron Connolly, Alex Davidson, Andy Taylor, Wayne Bannister, James Mills and Si Moore all recent additions to the squad the team is now settling down and playing some great rugby. All that is lacking is consistency and that only comes with playing with each other.”
