Rugby League: Rochdale schools’ 9s rounds out year in style

A great time was had by all at the Hornets Foundation Rugby League 9s tournament at Cardinal Langley Roman Catholic High School, rounding off the foundation’s work in secondary schools for the academic year.

The tournament was one of the biggest and most competitive ever, with pupils from across the borough of Rochdale coming together to face off to become Rochdale 9s champions.

The year seven winners were hosts Cardinal Langley, year eight was won by Matthew Moss and year nine was won by Siddal Moor.

A representative for the Hornets Foundation said: “The standard of play was superb and a great time was had by all - we can't wait for next year's tournament already.

“We would like to thank all the kids that took part, all the teachers that helped to organise the event and all the parents who were there to cheer the players on.

“In particular, we would like to thank Bob Smithies and our own Eliot Scanlan-Wells for refereeing the games, Rochdale Hornets star Brandon Wood for presenting the medals and to Cardinal Langley RC High for hosting the whole thing.

“Our congratulations go to winners Cardinal Langley, Matthew Moss and Siddal Moor, as well as to the other teams that took part.”

The Rochdale Hornets Sporting Foundation was founded in 2014 with the simple aim of having more people play rugby league more often, providing fun and unique opportunities for the local community.
