Cricket: Heywood teams for the weekend

Date published: 06 September 2019

It’s crunch for Heywood’s senior side on Saturday 7 September when they host Flowery Field in a match vital to both teams.

The visitors are in joint third place in Division 1A of the Greater Manchester League, five points behind leaders Denton West and four adrift of second-placed Moorside in the chase for the top two end-of-season spots which would secure promotion to the Premier League.

Heywood are in fifth place, five points adrift of Flowery Field and Glodwick, knowing that their Premier League aspirations look remote.

But they still have a spot in the new Premier 2 set-up next season to play for, and fifth place would guarantee that second prize.

Heywood’s last match of the season is at Glodwick a week on Saturday, so they will clearly need to up their game in both matches.

The second team, needing to win their last two games to avoid relegation from Division 3 East, go to Glodwick this Saturday.

And the 3rd X1 have a Sunday outing at Brooksbottom in the Bury suburb of Summerseat.
