Sailing: Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club

There was close racing on the Lake on Sunday 26 July and the results after handicap were sometimes even closer.

Conditions were good with the northwesterly wind offering some fast downwind stretches. Chris Massey in a quick RS300 always shot away with acceleration on the reaching legs. However, the slower boats had the handicap advantage.

There were three different race winners. Young Daisy Fisher in a Topper won the first race ahead of Chris Massey who was one second ahead of Will Smith in a Laser. In that race, Martin Brennan (Solo) had to face the challenge of Tom Daniel, also in a Solo, who overtook Brennan twice but failed to secure the lead. Near the finish, in a rushed tack, Daniel capsized and lost out overall.

Another young sailor, Evan Parry, in a Laser, took the second race ahead this time of Martin Brennan in a Solo.

Despite being last off the start line, Brennan quickly made up for it in the last race rounding the first windward mark into second place on the water. From this point on he had to keep ahead of Andy Carter, also Solo, and took the race win. Carter was runner up ahead of Will Smith.

Overall, Martin Brennan lead the day and the current series.
