Rochdale Masters have first run out of the season

Date published: 10 March 2022

Rochdale Masters had their first run out of the season on Saturday (5 March) against a spirited Cadishead side.

The club is for players aged 35 and older and the Masters motto is 'we don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing' and the club provides an opportunity for players to either get back into the game, or even try it for the first time.

Carl Abrahams had plenty of players available for this first outing and all the lads got plenty of game time. Simon Howe had his first run out for the side; his passing did usually go in the direction of a player.

Not to be outdone, Wayne English also had a rare go at passing but like Simon's, it went straight to the opposition.

The game in general was a scrappy affair with neither side really showing any structure but both sets of players did what they were there for and enjoyed their Saturday.

The Rochdale forwards tried their best to make the hard yards but were thwarted by the Cadishead defence. Ian Murgy and Johnny Concrete ran well as did Lee Durrant and Andy Duffy. Young Nathan Agg put in proper shift in a tireless performance but the MOM, awarded by Tony Hilton, went to Tony Hilton himself.

The boys are in training now in preparation for their next run out. The only injury picked up was to 'Big Rushy' who injured his hand after Richard Higgs' face collided with it. Rushy though is a true warrior and won't be put off by the injury.

The Masters meet for training every Friday from 6-7pm at Soccer Factory, Royle Barn Road, Castleton, with new or old players welcome.
