Quadruple win for Avenue FC

Date published: 14 June 2022

Heywood-based Avenue FC has made history by being the first in the Manchester League and the Rochdale, Bury & District Sunday League to win the quadruple in a season.

The team romped home this season, retaining their RBDSFL Division One champion title, and also taking home the Christine Robinson Memorial Trophy, the Chris Shyne Memorial Trophy and the Manchester FA Sunday Challenge Shield.

Chairman Brian Farrell, who established Avenue in 2014, said: “I am overwhelmed with pride of the achievements and success our small community club have accumulated this season.

“From 2014 we have all worked hard on and off the pitch to get where the club has got today. The mighty quadruple for the Sunday First Team, taking home our third consecutive league with two of them being premier titles, the league and division cup, plus the night where we become county champions at Hyde United which will live long in the memory.

“To go one better for the club our Sunday Seconds achieved a league and cup double, with these accolades combined , the success and domination of the RBDSFL was a piece of history now created, being the only club who has won everything they could in a single season domestically across the two teams.

“Sunday football at Avenue is now become a great attraction, and as club president and goalkeeper of the Sunday first team, all I can say is the word ‘ecstatic’ would somewhat be an understatement.

“I’d like to thank all the players, staff, volunteers and a special thank you to all the guys who come support us and has become part of Avenue FC history as one big team.”

Club secretary Gemma Tobin added: “I am proud and honoured to be club secretary at Avenue, who, this season, not only retained the RBDSFL Division One title, but also made history, winning a fantastic quadruple.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this season and it has been an absolute pleasure to watch the players and the management revel in their success. Everyone involved with Avenue has deserved the accolades this season and they have all played a massive part in bringing these trophies home.

“I would also like to mention our Second team, who also had success this season taking the Division Two title, and also winning the Divisional Cup and our Saturday Team, who in their debut season won promotion to Division One of the Manchester Football League.

“It has been an amazing year for the club, and we are looking forward to doing it all again next season.”

Avenue plays on Saturdays in the Manchester League and on Sundays in the Rochdale, Bury & District Sunday League.
