Rugby league: Mayfield preview

Date published: 05 August 2022

Mayfield Sports Centre sees the visit of St Helen's based Pilkington Recs on Saturday 6 August for a NCL Premier Division clash.

This is a game in which something's got to give, with both sides on a four match losing streak. Both are just below the mid point of the table and both are ready to end that run.

Sam Butterworth and Steve Wood are confident that it will be their Mayfield side that triumphs this weekend. Mayfield have suffered badly with injuries and players having other commitments this season. They have paid the price for this with some poor performance and some unexpected defeats. With no realistic chance off reaching the play offs, Mayfield are playing for pride and an improved league position.

Butterworth is hoping to welcome back Ieuan Higgs, Fin Stewart and possibly Jarrod Dash. All have trained and Butterworth is hoping they will report fit and ready for todays outing. After recent showings the focus in training has been on two areas. Fitness and attack both are essential for todays game and with them Mayfield will be adding two points to their total this afternoon.

Fixture Saturday 6 July 2022

  • NCL Premier Division: Mayfield v Pilkington Recs, kick off 2.30pm
