Rochdale Masters to play first international friendly against Canada

Date published: 04 October 2022

The Rochdale Masters rugby team will play a friendly game against international side Canada next month.

The Rochdale team is hosting the Canada Grizzlies who are visiting England on tour, to play in the International Masters Festival, and will play the friendly at Mayfield on Sunday 6 November.

Head coach Carl Abraham, who founded Rochdale Masters in 2021, said the match was “a big deal” and marks Rochdale’s first fixture against an international team. Carl is one of 20 players from across England selected to play for the Masters age group at the International Masters Festival.

The Rochdale Masters side was formed by Carl last year to encourage older players back to rugby league and support grassroots clubs whilst having fun. Officially, there are no winners in the Masters games as the game focuses on encouraging older players back to the sport and supporting grassroots clubs whilst having fun.

The International Masters Festival takes place on Sunday 13 November 2022 at York St John’s University Sports Fields.
