Local Election 2016

Richard Farnell

Richard Farnell

Labour Party
Balderstone & Kirkholt Ward

It has been a privilege to represent Balderstone and Kirkholt for the past four years.

Local elections are not about national politics or giving the government a good kicking (although they deserve it for their shameless tax cuts for millionaires while cutting benefits to the disabled.)

Local elections are about electing a Councillor who knows and cares about the area they are seeking to represent. I live in Balderstone and care passionately about our local community.

That is why I never stop campaigning to improve local facilities and services.

I have won considerable new investment for Balderstone and Kirkholt, including-

  • New shops and community centre at the Strand.
  • Major improvements to Balderstone Park.
  • A new Community room and new computers for the library to be provided this year
  • Roads resurfaced and potholes fixed with more to come
  • Supported several local community groups with grants to improve facilities
  • Grot spots cleaned up and fly tipping removed with our new Clean and Green team.
  • Increased the number of places available at Sandbrook Primary School by 30 a year so local children can get a place at this popular school

I hold more advice surgeries than any other Rochdale councillor.

I also attend local community meetings to listen carefully to residents views, including Balderstone and Kirkholt Forum, TRAK and Friends of Balderstone Park.

I am a member of Kirkholt Million which is investing £1million in new projects on the estate, including training and apprenticeships for local residents and a new skateboard park in Balderstone Park.

A lot has been achieved but there is still a lot more to do. That is why I am asking for your support to continue working hard for everyone in Balderstone and Kirkholt.

Labour has launched its local manifesto. Our priorities are to improve our schools, make our town cleaner and greener and to attract more jobs and firms to the borough.

You can read the full manifesto here:

Thank you for taking the time to read my election pitch. I would be an honour to represent you for another four year term.

Whichever way you vote, I hope you take the time to cast your vote in the council election on Thursday 5 May. Your vote matters.

Kind regards

Richard Farnell
