I was born on Alder Road in Castleton and have lived almost all of my life in the village.

Educated at St Gabriel’s RC School, passing my eleven plus with a technical school qualification, I then gained an apprenticeship at David Bridge & Sons (Farrel) and qualified with a City and Guilds first class pass in Mechanical Engineering.

In my early twenties I worked for Rolls Royce Aero engine division in Derby as a Test Engineer prior to returning to Rochdale to get married.

Local companies I worked for include Holroyds in Milnrow, FGS in Belfield, Russell Hobbs in Failsworth, and at Pulse Home products in Royton as a Senior Project Engineer for the Nicky Clarke electric brand prior to retirement.

Married to Lynn, we have three children and five grandchildren and are a very close family and always enjoy getting together. This year will be our golden wedding anniversary, a very special year.

My wife and I are lovers of the theatre and are actively involved in local amateur productions, mainly at the Rochdale Curtain theatre where I have given just over 50 years of service. Lynn is currently the Business Director and I am a Trustee. My main love is pantomimes and I have written, produced and acted in the Castleton St Gabriel’s ADMS annual children’s shows for the past forty years and enjoyed every minute.

Castleton is in my blood and having witnessed its sad decline from a prosperous manufacturing village with the demise of the cotton industry in the 1960s I know this can be turned around.

New houses and new families are settling in our village and the reason is its locality and infrastructure. Four excellent primary schools, a state of the art secondary school, a main commuter line railway station, two access points to the motorway network and a red line bus service. Best of all, a welcoming, diverse, friendly village community.

My involvement in village matters is long established. My strength is listening and understanding residents in need.

I have over the last four years as a councillor been able to help and solve many complex problems that have been brought to me, and being a councillor this has given me contacts that have been fully supportive of my needs and demands.

I want you to put your trust in me for another four years and the reasons are Identical to those given by the late Jim Dobbin, my mentor who persuaded me to get involved in local politics.

  • I still have great enthusiasm for the job of ward councillor.
  • There are projects I have started that I want to see finished.
  • Castleton is worth fighting for and I continue give it my 100%.
  • I am in good health.
