My name is Iftikhar Ahmed, I am Labour Party Candidate from Central Rochdale. I live locally with my wife, son and daughter.
It has been an honour to represent central Rochdale for the past four years as a Councillor.
For last six years Rochdale has seen its funding cut by the Tory Government by almost £200 million, propped up in coalition by the Liberal Democrats for 5 years. At the same time, many wealthier Councils in the South of England have actually had their funding increased by the Tories and Liberal Democrats.
Remember the Conservatives supported by the Liberal Democrats brought in the hated bedroom tax.
Despite these Tory/Lib Dem cuts, locally Labour has managed the Council’s budget carefully and protected the front line services that people value most.
- Not one single library, community centre, nursery or Surestart centre has closed-unlike in some neighbouring boroughs.
- Labour invested £10 million extra in road repairs and we’ll put an extra
- Labour has extended the popular “Clean and Green” teams to tidy up grot spots and fly tipping.
As a Councillor I have also been working hard on issues that affect our areas.
- I have secured major improvements for Springhill Resource Centre.
- Got funding for improvements to Highways and Footpaths throughout Central Ward.
- I have had over 30 grots spots cleaned up where people had been fly tipping.
- I have supported household adaptations for elderly and disabled people.
- I have worked to get traffic calming measures in the ward.
- I have supported the building of new houses in the ward on sites that were previously derelict both to provide new family homes and to improve our area.
- I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty and regularly help out with litter picks with local residents to help our environment.
I live locally in the heart of our ward and care passionately about our area. My local area is the same as your area, so I obviously want the best for community just as much as you do.
I hope you will vote for me so that I can continue to be an active, hard-working councillor for Central Rochdale and to be a strong voice for our area on the Council.
