Smallbridge & Firgrove Ward

Dear fellow residents of Smallbridge and Firgrove Ward,

I live in Smallbridge in the heart of our ward, so your local community is my local community, your priorities are my priorities.

For the past four years I’ve been proud to represent the people of our very diverse ward covering Smallbridge, Ashbrook Hey, Hamer, Belfield, Firgrove and parts of Milnrow.

I believe councillors should work on behalf of local residents and here are just a few of the local issues in the ward that I’ve been successful with:

  • Feed to read project at Smallbridge Library
  • Speed bumps on Canon Street to calm speeding traffic
  • Bishop Street resurfaced as part of Labour’s £10 million investment in highways
  • Rochdale Road, Firgrove resurfaced as part of the same investment
  • £20,000 secured for improvements to Firgrove pavilion
  • The concrete slab which used to attract anti-social behaviour at Firgrove playground has been removed
  • Home improvements on Rochdale Road, Firgrove to make the whole area look good
  • Traffic calming and old dilapidated street signs to be replaced on The Cray
  • Plans to improve Firgrove Gardens

Despite massive cuts of almost £200 million imposed on Rochdale by the Tory Government in London, Rochdale’s Labour Council has protected front-line services:

  • No library closures
  • No community centres closed
  • No Surestart centres closed
  • £10 million investment in highways to improve our roads with an extra £1 million put in again this year
  • Labour’s popular ‘Clean and Green’ teams who clean up eyesores and fly tipping have been extended

I would be honoured if the people of Smallbridge, Ashbrook Hey, Hamer, Belfield, Firgrove and Milnrow were to re-elect me on 5 May to serve them for another four years.

Regards,

Amna Mir
