Rachel Massey

Labour Party
Kingsway Ward

Thank you for reading my election pitch.

Please use all 3 votes for your Labour team here in Kingsway.

It will be a privilege to represent Kingsway, as your Labour councillor.

All voters should have the information they need to make the right decision when choosing who to represent you and your family’s needs. You need a team who will work tirelessly to make Kingsway a better place where you love to live. As we face the Government's latest cost of living crisis, you need experienced councillors who have a proven track record of working in the community, who are on your side and know that actions speak louder than words.

It’s worth knowing that the people you put your trust in will deliver the best outcome for you. I will always do everything I can to make a difference and are proud to represent you on Rochdale Council.

I grew up here in Rochdale and am immensely proud of our town. I live and work here with my husband and two young children. I want to raise Rochdale to be a great place to grow up in, and a great place to grow old in. I love to volunteer for the award winning Rochdale in Bloom and enjoy our town being recognised with the national recognition it deserves.

Your Kingsway Labour team will always work to resolve local issues and to improve facilities in our community. In the last year we’ve been working to make a difference by:

  • Introducing FREE bulky waste collections, and ensuring the local tip stays open until 8pm every day to help tackle illegal fly-tipping - There is NO EXCUSE. We will continue to innovate and do everything possible to reduce illegal fly-tipping by using CCTV and employing additional enforcement officers
  • We won funding to resurface parts of Kingsway and Stiups Lane, as well as introducing traffic calming on Bertha Road, Rosefield Crescent, Margaret Avenue, Buersil Avenue and Woodbine Street East. Broad Lane is next for safety improvements, and by bringing the Highways Service back under council control we will reinvest the savings to fill more pot holes, and improve our footpaths
  • We have funding approved for new play equipment on Robinsons Common and are working with our Youth Service, Mosque and Community Church to develop green projects in the community and get Kingsway more involved in Rochdale in Bloom
  • We take pride in our area and along with local volunteers took part in The Great British Spring Clean by organising a litter pick to keep our area looking well. We will do these regularly so please contact us if you would like to take part too
  • When the Tories refused to feed children in the school holidays, we pledged as a Labour Council that no child should go hungry, and have supported families in the holidays and continue to do so through our Food Clubs and Pantry’s
  • We understand the issues with speeding and anti-social behaviour in the community and we meet regularly with the police and Community Safety to keep our area safe including ensuring increased enforcement operations with GMP especially around Milnrow Road, Kingsway and Broad Lane. Please let us know of any concerns you have where you live
  • We setup Uniform 4 All across the Borough, which is helping many families with expensive school uniform and reducing waste. Find us on Facebook at Uniform4A and let us know if we can help you with good quality uniform for Kingsway High School and St Cuthbert’s High School
  • We have the Youth Zone at Moss Street and despite Government cuts to funding have kept our Youth Service open and active in the community
  • We are creating new jobs at Kingsway and across the borough, with Rochdale’s Atom Valley set to become a dynamic, interconnected community blending innovative world-class industry with ground breaking research
  • We are creating more opportunities for our younger residents by working with Hopwood Hall College to extend their offer in Rochdale
  • We are regenerating Rochdale Town Centre and our Town Hall, last year winning an award for having the Best Town Centre in the North West
  • Labour is bringing buses back under public control, with bus and tram fares expected to be capped at £2 for adults and £1 for children
  • Your Labour team are dedicated to deliver quick action on your issues, and we are available to listen and be your voice on the Council. You can contact us by phone or email and we are always happy to meet you to discuss your concerns

At this election please use all three votes for your experienced and hard-working Labour Team. As a team we will continue to push the council to provide the support and services we need locally. We have a great community that all three of us will work hard for every day, but we need your help at the election to continue doing this.

Please keep in touch with any issues in your area.
