Local Election 2022

Janet Emsley

Janet Emsley

Labour Party
Littleborough Lakeside Ward

Dear Residents

Where to start?

It’s been a strange and challenging time. So many things that we have had to change and adapt to, cope with and live with; I’m hoping that now is the time to be able to move on and get back what we had, enjoy new challenges and look forward to a brighter future.

Having served Littleborough Lakeside residents for the last eight years I am pleased that my local branch has placed faith in me to continue by selecting me again as a Labour candidate for this local election.

Let me introduce myself: I was born in Littleborough, I have been a Littleborough resident for over 40 years, and Rochdale for over 55, I have raised my family here, worked here and I continue to enjoy life in our beautiful place.

Many of you know me from my years at Wardle High School as Mrs Doodson then Emsley. In 2015 I retired from Wardle Academy, after a fulfilling teaching career, to concentrate on my role as your Councillor. I bring broad and rich experience and have a mature skill set to be of assistance to you.

I still believe it is important to have Councillors that know their ward and the people in it. I have worked hard serving the community to the best of my ability for 8 years now and, in that time, despite restrictions, have got to know even more people across the whole ward.

Wherever I am and whoever I am with, Littleborough is in the room!

I am a voice for you, the people of Littleborough, through participating in meetings and functions with local people and groups, listening to what the people of Littleborough are bothered about, passionate about and worried about then doing something about it!

During the pandemic I published information on social media to keep people informed, providing guidance and assurance and reminding everyone that your Councillors are available to you, I hope this was useful.

I continue to serve the Community on various bodies and push for funding from the Council, Township and external funders. Local businesses, CICs and others have benefitted from the proactive role I have played in making sure that Littleborough has a voice.

From planting trees to poppy pebbles and picnics; food collections to future plans with young people; being Mother Christmas to Meet-Up wine-

tasting; volunteering at vaccination centres; lantern parades and Littleborough Food & Drink and Arts Festivals – I will be there for you.

As I said in 2018:

I will continue to be active for you.

I am available for you, I will listen, I will act, I will work hard for you.

I stand this year alongside Tom Besford and Julian Farnell.

I ask you to support us in this election and give 3 votes to Labour.

Thank you,

Cllr Janet Emsley

Labour Party candidate for Littleborough Lakeside

An endorsement:

Janet has provided me with help, support and advice numerous times during her time as a Councillor. I have always found her to be helpful, hardworking, approachable and above all honest. When she says she will do something, she does.

Zoe Attwood, Secretary LEAF and Friends of Hare Hill Park

Over the past few years Janet has championed The Star Tree Studio CIC; from being supportive of our proposals to renovate The Gig House in Hare Hill Park, Littleborough for our activities and develop it into a thriving community venue, volunteering by helping us with events for local children, such as at Christmas, to connecting us with other organisations whom we hope to work with in the future.

Janet is an approachable, down to earth, very hardworking Councillor and we never hesitate to contact her should we have any issues that we feel she can assist with.
